"I like the way you care for us, but it feels like I'm being watched constantly when I'm on facebook for few minutes..." beingwatched
I don't appreciate it when somone does something wrong, and then you bring it into yhour sermon. I think you should just talk calmy to that one person. I am scared to go on FACEBOOK because of you...!
Don't like getting in trouble...
scaredperson
I like the fact that the leaders are carring about us, but there's such things as over-caring...
IN RESPONSE TO THE COMMENTS ABOVE:
All these three comments are related to FB users feeling (umcorfortable) of being watched on FB. I appreciate all your comments. First of all, I'd like to communicate to all that I had a chance to personally talk to "scaredperson" and we had resolved the situation. I understood that person's persperctive and that person understood mine. First, I made it clear that I respected his/her identity. Secondly, I made it clear that I had confronted 1 on 1 first (as a matter of fact I had confronted several youngs, on one on one basis), and those people had agreed not to post or have anything inappropriate in FB. Next, the reason I bring it to the sermon is that it will serve as a correction to others that are doing the same. So actually, I used some people wrongdoings as an opportunity to preach to others. It is a natural thing to do for prachers. When I am in the church, I appreciate the fact that the message is convicting and it feels like is addressed to me. It encourages me to change and it feels like the Word of God is active, alive and I could apply it to my life.
"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Hebrews 4:12
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Furthermore, the preacher or any Christian is commanded to teach, rebuke, correct by the Bible.
I am encouraging all the Youth Group to truly take seriously the Word of God. Remember the Scripture?
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in SPEECH, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12
The content on the FB, in which I did not find it appropriate in FB, are obvious words such as you know: "b**** (female dog) and "f***". It is very inappropriate. How different are we from the world if we use such vulgar languages? I had also addressed to all Youth Group through e-mail, that I feel if they are keeping the vow: a) desperate pursuit b) consecrated heart c)diligent prayer and d) focused living - they should post something that is spiritually building instead of doing so many silly quizzes & games. It's a challenge; however, if it doesn't apply to you, you don't have to worry about it. If anybody wishes privacy, you should not post it in FB or myspace, etc. There's no privacy online. Not that I'm encouraging you to post bad words through other methods, but we should be wise. There's no reason to be scared or feeling insecure if you are not doing anything wrong.
For those I had communicated directly: I appreciate that you took my correction(s) very humbly and corrected the situation immediately and thank you for giving me ideas for my sermon. I don't think I am being "over-caring". I would have done the same for my daughter and as you know we are a family in the eyes of God.
Thanks for your comments and I hope that we would be able to reach to the level of comfort and trust of addressing such issues personally. Meanwhile, it was the right thing to do! I don't bite! LOL
Thanks, Andrea! It's good to be reminded that God values us so much.
Mr. T.
I feel like u encourage us 2 go 2 u for advice but before we even get the chance to, u vulunteer 2 get involved. I think it would be good if u can wait for us 2 go 2 u because sometimes we want 2 solve it on our own or get help from other people.
Dear beingwatched:
Seeking advice first...
It depends on the situation and I'm not claiming that I have all the answer(s), but one thing that helps a lot is to seek advice for things that you are not sure on how to handle and if you approach situations in biblical ways, that pleases God... That's the point of getting advice. Isn't it? Asking question first in order to get guidance that you wouldn't know exactly how to handle or if sin is involved:
"The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice." Proverbs 12:15
"Listen to advice and accept instruction,
and in the end you will be wise." Proverbs 19:20
Whenever I face problems, I do seek advice from people that have more experience and are wiser spiritually. I seek counseling from the pastor in marriage relationship as well whenever I need help. Anyhow, I don't know exactly what what is the situation you are referring. So if you would give me a situation, I would probably address your comment better. As I pointed out, let me reiterate, it depends on the situation. In academic areas, it is encouraged to try to figure-out on your own first then seek help (especially H.W) if you cannot solve it for yourself. However, if a situation involves pressure from friends asking you to do drugs and you have a hard time saying, "no" then you should seek advice to stand strong in order to not to fall under the temptation of doing drugs, then you see that it's better to seek advice before trying it yourself first and get hooked. Anyhow, I'm not clear in what situation you are referring... wasn't the topic about FB?... :)
Write me back if you are not clear...
Thanks!
Love in Christ,
Mr. T.
"Beingwatched"... I'm deducting you are the same person as the first comment from FB, r u? since your nickname is "beingwatched"???
Anyhow, sorry about typos... I'm in my Seminary till 10PM ... :)
To the person who posted, "it's not funny when you kept saying "rash on your a**" (I had to re-post it this way because the word was fully spelled). Actually, in its original definition means donkey... However, I know, it had a negative connotation and it did... I could have re-phrased, "buttocks". I thought you all (Y.G.) will give me the same kind of humor and grace as you did with Dr. Joo. Of course, it was hilarious b/c he did it without being fully aware of English language usage (I guess). But, I realize, in my case it didn't work in the same way. I appreciate the fact you mentioning here and I apologize. Thank you!
